Europe Water Crisis, Israel's Shift to Water Scarcity to Surplus

Hi everyone, this is Leo and a big welcome to our 22 new subscribers.

For first-time receivers, I have 12+ years of experience in growth marketing and want to transition to the water-tech space.

And that’s why I am sending each issue.

📃 News:

  • Europe, are you ready for the biggest water crisis this year?

    • In 2023, France experiences its driest winter in 60 years.

    • Italy’s CIMA research foundation found a 64 percent reduction in snowfall by mid-April.

    • Because of the droughts, “This is the worst period that we have had for the last 100 years,” Samuel Reyes, the Catalan Water Agency director, told CNN.

Climate change definitely reduces water availability across swaths of Europe. You can get more details from the article about the situation in Europe here.

And, as a solution; municipalities should think about ways to harvest rain waters like this one.

  • Israel made great innovations in water-tech and went from water scarcity to surplus. And changes they made also grabbed the attention of other countries and municipalities. In this article, you can get details about Israel's water-tech actions and the ideas that Utah’s Division of Water Resources want to import.

  • Another news related to Israel is about the water-tech opportunities between a well-known group company in Turkey. To be honest, this makes me happy as Turkey is my home country and Turkey has a huge potential both in agri-tech and water-tech.

🎤 Interviews:

  • Tom Ferguson is the founder and managing partner of Burnt Island Ventures, and he answered questions about their criteria, portfolio companies and the future of water tech on this interview. I totally recommend it to every startup employees in water-tech. Here is the link to it.

  • One of the well-known companies in water utility services, Saur, is shifting to a water technology company. Olivia Tempest from Smart Water Magazine interviewed Nader Antar - The President of Saur’s Internation Division - to talk about the company’s new objectives. Here is the interview.

🤔 Idea of the week:

Last week, I completed my 3rd half-marathon in Turkey. And I participated in more than 30 running races in 7-8 years.

If there are any runners here, they will understand what I say here easily.

In every 3 to 4 kilometers, there are water stations in running races and you can grab a bottle to drink it. But in most cases, runners use water to sup and wash their faces. After that, runners throw that almost-full water bottle away and it’s a water-waste.

I have one solution for this case:

Drinking water companies can produce a small bottle that can be used only in running races, and this reduces the water waste.

We are using less than 10 percent of the available Wastewater that we generate in the US. In 2050, I’d like to see that close to over 90%.
